This Jewish Girl Gets Real
I’m frankly a little surprised that I have to write a post such as this but after encountering not one but two incidents recently I don’t feel I have a choice.
Let me start off by stating the obvious: stereotypes are not good. Yes, we all have them, but we don’t have to perpetuate them. So no, it’s not okay to tell me something I did is a “Jew move” or that a fellow acquaintance is cheap and then afterwards say, “I hate to be stereotypical but he is Jewish.”
Here’s what I hate: hearing such things.
So please, think before you speak. It’s not about whether you know the race, religion, or sexual orientation of the person in front of you and then keeping inappropriate comments to oneself until later when among like company. It’s about stopping them altogether and the only way we can all do so in the future is by starting with ourselves.
